Summer stuff

I think a summary of this past summer's activities is in order here. We've been very busy with camps for the kids and family vacations.

Christian started off the summer by putting a 3" gash in his knee after falling off his motorcycle. It required 20 or so stitches and 14 staples to close up. That happened on a Saturday. The very next Monday, he decided to go ahead and attend his week-long scout camp at Camp Chris Dobbins. He hobbled around on crutches for a few days and then walked around with just a slight limp. Amazing how fast kids heal. I was able to spend a few days there with him. We had a great time and Christian loved it.

Sydney started one of her cheer camps the Thursday of the same week of Christian's scout camp. So, to make things even more complicated, Sydney's girl's camp started the very next Monday after that. Laurie had to pick up Sydney and another cheer friend from their cheer camp in Boulder and drive them to Lake Wellington to attend the girls camp. To make things even more complicated, during this same week our car had to be in the shop for some work. So Laurie had to use a loaner car from the shop to do her pick up and drop off duties. The loaner car over-heated while going up the dirt road to Lake Wellington. Laurie and Colin ended up having to spend the night up there to give the car some rest time. Pretty busy and intense time.

We visited my family in Orem for the week of July 4th. Stayed and Mom & Dads place and spent a lot of time at family outings. It's always hard to leave.

We traveled to Lake Vermillion, MN the last week of July into the first part of August for our yearly week on the lake. We left for Minnesota early Saturday morning July 26. While visiting the cabin, Laurie and I made two visits to the ER in Cook due to a nasty bacterial infection Laurie had in her throat. She was positive it was strep but the tests came back negative. The first visit she was given some Amoxicillin. She woke up the next day feeling worse than the previous day so we headed back to the ER. This time they started an IV, gave her a shot of pain-killer and started a more powerful antibiotic. She started feeling better the next day but was down and out for another 24 hours. We left the cabin for the long trip home on August 2nd. On the way home we stopped in St. Paul to visit Laurie's Uncle Andy. Then spent a few more hours at a cemetery in St. Paul photographing and logging some Schoch family plots. Most of Laurie's ancestors, back to her great-grandfather (maybe beyond), are buried there. We met Laurie's second cousin Louise for the cemetery trip. She knew the locations of all the Schochs in the cemetery. I think it was the Oakwood??? cemetery. After visiting the cemetery we set out to find the Mall of America (MOA). After a few wrong turns we finally made it. We spent a few hours there and then got back on the road toward Des Moines where we spent the night. We made it back to Colorado late that Sunday night (August 3rd).

Inspired by Sister-in-law

I read Jenn Elison's blog yesterday. I really liked it and decided to get my stuff together... so to speak. Don't be expecting anything fancy here. Just some rants, ramblings, pictures and basic blog stuff... Basically, I'm going to consolidate (or link) all of my blogs into this one here.

Here are a few of my (mostly boring) creations:
